CRC Africa 2012


Connecting Rural Communities Africa is a series the CTO created to facilitate a stakeholder dialogue to bring ICT connectivity to the marginalised communities across Africa. The 7th Connecting Rural Communities Africa Forum was held in Freetown, Sierra Leone from 20th to 22nd June 2012 at the Miatta Conference Centre, hosted by the Ministry of Communications, Sierra Leone and the National Telecommunications Commission of Sierra Leone, with over 150 delegates in attendance.

VIPs attending the event led by His Excellency, Dr Ernest Bai Koroma, the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone included Hon Alhaji Ben Kargbo, Minister of Information and Communication, Sierra Leone and Hon George M. Khaniri, Minister of ICT, Kenya.

The speaker faculty consisted of over 25 experts drawn from both the public sector and private sector who contributed on the various facets of rural communications ranging from policy and regulatory frameworks to rural access gaps and impact on livelihoods. O3b, ACE, Airtel, Avanti, Detecon, Ericsson, Helios Towers, Intelsat, SES participated at the industry showcase at the event, featuring novel technologies.

On the 22nd June PWC conducted a special workshop on Universal Service and Access Funds that examined rural access strategies, operational models and the future of universal access.
