Commonwealth coordination meetings

Coordination of Commonwealth views during international treaty negotiations is critical to ensuring the CTO and the wider Commonwealth network of sister agencies fully play their part in achieving the new Sustainable Development Goals. Commonwealth coordination meetings occur in the margins of ITU, ICANN and Internet Governance Forums and provide a platform for member countries to discuss the pressing issues of the day in an environment that promotes knowledge sharing, inclusivity and partnerships.

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) meetings

The Commonwealth ITU meetings are an invaluable platform for sharing views and experience and building understanding and shared goals on ITU matters for the Commonwealth countries. The CTO facilitates Commonwealth ITU Coordination meetings in the margins of ITU events, including:

Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) meetings

The CTO has played an active role in the margins of ICANN meetings since 2014 when ICANN, CTO, Nominet and the Public Interest Registry jointly held the Commonwealth Domain Name System Forum 2014 in advance of ICANN 50 in June 2014. The CTO will support ICANN meetings at the following events:

  • ICANN76, Community Forum, Cancún, Mexico, 11-16 March 2023
  • ICANN77, Policy Forum, Washington D.C., United States of America, 12-15 June 2023
  • ICANN78, Annual General Meeting (25th), Hamburg, Germany, 21-26 October 2023
