Commonwealth Human Resources and ICT 2015


Over 60 HR Professionals from the ICT sector benefited from CTO’s annual Human Resources and ICT conference at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Maputo, Mozambique from July 6 – 7. Delivering the opening address of the event, His Excellency Carlos Mesquita, Minister of Transport and Communications for the Republic of Mozambique, referred to the need to create, maintain and enrich a talent pool that contributes to the development of the ICT sector through a multi-stakeholder approach, combining government, formal education, informal education and the private sectors.

In his keynote address Nabeel Goheer, Director, Strategic Planning and Evaluation Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat examined how the concept of work has changed due to the advent of ICTs and blurring of boundaries between labour and capital.

Delegates and speakers from across the Commonwealth and beyond attending the event includes country representations from Botswana, Cameroon, Canada, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda and United Kingdom. This year’s event focused on the theme “Innovation Through People and Technology”, with dedicated sessions on:

  • The impact of social media on HR management;
  • Integrated ICT solutions for HR management
  • HR planning in the ICT age
  • Talent development and retention
  • Novel HR practices in the ICT age
  • Shaping the national ICT skills landscape

The annual HR and ICT 2015 conference provides HR executives with a unique platform to examine the paradigm shift in human resource management. Concepts and practice in HR management have to adapt to the operating environment of today’s ICT sector. The annual conference provide HR executives with a platform to openly discuss the critical role they play in effectively managing talent, and shaping the future of that sector.
