World Telecommunication and Information Society Day: CTO calls for greater use of Open Data

London, 17 May 2017 – On the occasion of the 2017 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, Shola Taylor, the secretary-general of the CTO, has called for greater adoption of open data frameworks.

“In the same way that we owe so much to free and open source software, government, business and society stand to benefit immensely from the availability of free, non-personal data. Data is not an end in itself, but it is the adequate use of such data to build the much needed knowledge to improve services in areas such as health or education or the environment that brings new, untapped opportunities. In the interest achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, we must adopt frameworks that allow for free availability, free distribution and free use of non-personal data,” said Mr Taylor.
