CTO Response to COVID-19 Global Pandemic

Following the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and its global impact, this communication serves to inform you on the measures the CTO Secretariat has taken to ensure we continue to serve and support all our members more effectively and responsively.

As an Intergovernmental organisation based in the UK, the Secretariat is following closely the directives and guidelines of the UK Government, World Health Organization (WHO) and Public Health England on the effective approaches to mitigate the wide spread of COVID-19 virus.  One of these measures taken by the Secretariat is subsequent arrangement for all Secretariat staff to work remotely from home., during weekdays for the next two weeks.

The Secretariat will review the situation  in line with UK Government guidelines,.

In the meantime, the Secretariat has taken the following actions

  1. Postponed the Commonwealth Regional ICT Round Table that was due to take place in Nairobi, Kenya from 16-20 March 2020. A future date for the event will be communicated to members in due course.
  2. Postponed the Commonwealth Digital Economy Forum 2020 that was planned to take place in St. Helena from 23–27 March 2020. A future date for the event will be communicated to members in due course.
  3. Held discussions with the UK government regarding postponing the Commonwealth ICT Ministers Forum, originally scheduled for the 5-7 May 2020 in London, to arrange a future date.
  4. Continues planning the Annual CTO ICT Forum as well as the Council 2020 meeting in Cameroon is on-going, at this stage the dates projected are the 28 September to 2 October 2020, subject to confirmation.
  5. Currently exploring partnerships for offering online training and development courses to our members.
  6. Continues to deliver technical support and consultancy services obligations earmarked for 2019-20 and 2020-21.
