Visa Information

Nationals from Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Hong Kong, Kenya, Philippines, Mauritius, Singapore, Uganda and Tanzania do not require entry visas to visit Rwanda. Please note that all must hold a valid passport for at least six months.

Nationals from Australia, Germany, Israel, New Zealand, Republic of South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom and United States of America shall get entry visa and pay visa fee upon arrival at any Rwanda entry point without prior application. The entry visa fee is 30USD and it’s valid for a period of up to 30 days. Alternatively nationals of the mentioned countries may also choose to get visa at Rwanda Diplomatic Missions or online

Nationals of Singapore, Hong Kong, Mauritius and Philippines are exempted from entry visa for a stay of up to 90 days. Nationals of African countries not exempted from visa fee shall get entry visa at Rwandan entry points (Kigali International Airport and all land borders).

Due to the fact that different requirements apply to different countries and the requirements are subject to change, we advise that you should contact the nearest Rwandan mission or Consulate to make any enquiries and to find more details about your visa application. All Visa arrangements and costs must be borne by the attendee.


Country Profile

Officially called the Republic of Rwanda, is a sovereign state in Central and East Africa with approximately 12 million people. Also known as “the land of a thousand hills”, Rwanda has five volcanoes, twenty-three lakes and many rivers, some forming the source of the River Nile. The country lies 75 miles south of the equator in the Tropic of Capricorn, 880 miles West of the Indian Ocean and 1,250 miles East of the Atlantic Ocean. Rwanda is bordered by Uganda to the North, Tanzania to the East, Burundi to the South and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the West.The capital of Rwanda is Kigali.

The official currency for Rwanda is the Rwandan Franc. International symbol: RWF.

Credit cards and ATM cash machines: There are ATM cash machines in Kigali, but not all of them accept foreign cards. It is advisable to carry cash with you at all times as credit card machinesmay not work due to connectivity problems. ATM cash machines are rare outside Kigali and those that do exist usually do not accept foreign cards.

The climate of the country is temperate to subtropical, with two rainy seasons and two dry seasons each year.

Tipping and Local Laws and customs
Tipping for services during group activities varies. Work on approximately 10% of the bill for restaurant meals when not on a guided safari.
Photography of government buildings is prohibited.
Plastic bags have been banned for environmental reasons and visible plastic bags will be confiscated on arrival at the airport.
